New crochet

I was taking a nap the other day, and awoke with the idea that I'd like to make a crocheted pine cone. It could make a pretty Christmas ornament. So, I went online to see if there was a pattern or even a picture of one that I could maybe try to copy.

Bupkis.

So, I decided to try and make a pattern on my own. Who do I think I am, anyway? Some sicko, that's who. After several failed attempts, this is what I came up with:

I'm not totally happy with it as there are holes under the "leaves" - but is there a better pattern out there? Not that I can find. I'd be interested in finding a pattern, tho.

I'm not the only crochet sicko in this family. Glory is thrilled that she taught herself how to crochet in a circle.

I've Become a Famous Artist, sort of

I'm overjoyed to announce that I have been spotted by another blog, and it's not my sister's (fibermania.blogspot.com)! One of my creations has made it onto (drumroll, please...) softiescentral.typepad.com. This is a blog that I look at everyday, right after my sister's. You should, too.
But, the funny thing is, I was recognized for the amigurumi cat I crocheted, and not my quilting.

Oh well. I'll take fame however I can get it, as long as no nakedness is involved. Sheesh.

Confluence

Completed July 16, 2007
60" x 55"

Finally, I finished this quilt, which is intended to be the latest masterpiece. By that I mean that I made this quilt to enter it into a quilt show - the first quilt I've ever had in a show! After all that work, making a quilt a week, I finally feel like this one is good enough to show. I couldn't be happier with it.

And now, my latest obsession.

A couple of weeks ago, my DH sent me a picture of something entitled amigurumi. It was a picture of frozen treats, popsicles, ice cream sandwiches, etc, made from crochet. I was just teaching myself how to do beaded crochet last month, and still had a project half finished when this new world was opened to me. I did a google search for amigurumi, and oh boy. I was hooked! (There might be a pun somewhere in that last sentence.) I made this siamese kitten to satisfy some long-buried desire, and I'm still crocheting cute things as we speak.

But I've also started the NEXT quilt.
